Background

When she was 14, IU dreamed to become a singer after singing at her school's sports competition and she received applause from the audience. She began attending auditions but failed all auditions, and she was also duped by fake entertainment companies that tried to make her an idol. Due to the failure of her father's project, IU's family began to experience financial difficulties when she was in seventh grade. For a year and a half, IU had to live apart from her parents in a studio room with her grandmother, younger brother, and cousin in abject poverty. IU almost lost her dream because of that.
But IU never let herself be like that, she continue to audition and audition in different talent agencies, she also tried auditioning at JYP Entertainment but got rejected too. She never loose his hope until she met an agency that helped her to become a star, but things didn't go as planned. She used to appear in different variety shows an experienced wearing mascot to entertain the hosts and the audience of the show. Eventually as years goes by IU is being recognize with her talent an she became so popular in the industry, she is known as one of the most successful South Korean solo artist.

Relationship

- On October 8, 2015, local news outlet Dispatch reported that she and Jang Ki Ha (Jang Ki Ha and the Faces) were dating, which was later confirmed by IU's management company, Loen Entertainment. The couple broke up on January 23, 2017.

- On December 31, 2022, Dispatch reported that IU and Jong Suk had been dating for about four months. Both EDAM Entertainment and HighZium Studio confirmed the reports later that day.
